Labels:text | screenshot | font | black and white | document OCR: Five bathers These five bathers, short and broad-backed, belong to a series of very small sized paintings on the same theme painted by Cézanne. Whether rapid sketches or studies for more ambitious works, these bathing scenes are nevertheless finished works. The bathers, gathered round the water, form a circle. They are communicating with their eyes and their gestures. The frame of mind and animation which is found here is typical of the genre scenes of that period, such as the "Temptation of St. Anthony", and was gradually replaced in his later work by more static compositions. The landscape, built up with long brush strokes, seems undifferentiated and in strong contrast with the bathers's powerfylly drawn bodies and eloquent attitudes.
